When you notice your
four-legged family member playing with something chewable or any other
“harmless” items around the house, you feel you’ll never witness anything
cuter. Sometimes, pet owners inadvertently encourage such behavior by
converting some of these objects into playthings. Now, if you ask a
veterinarian about the kind of things you can allow your pet to play with,
they’ll ask you to avoid giving stuffed toys, chewable items made of rawhide,
or dental shoes. Instead, they suggest adhering to the following tips when
buying toys.
Indestructible:
Whenever you buy
discount dog toys from the website, try to stick to indestructible products
only. It doesn’t matter whether your doggie is physically strong – this rule
shouldn’t change. Usually, nylon or hard rubber-based products are the best.
Just remember to keep your eyes open for sharp edges. Stay as far away from
them as possible.
Rope-like playthings:
When it comes to discount dog toys, rope-based products are always beneficial
for pooches. Some items may come with an attached rope made of nylon or rubber.
While you can definitely purchase one of these products, you shouldn’t remember
to avoid buying playthings with sharp edges, as already mentioned above.
No bells or squeakers: You and your four-legged family member love them, but if you ask a veterinarian or any other domestic animal expert, they’ll ask you to stay away from products with bells or squeakers installed inside. Doggies are curious animals. They’ll try to rip the item open to get to the bell or squeaker kept inside. If he/she swallows it by mistake, there will be a huge problem.
Tearing and ripping: Even plush toys can be strong enough, provided the manufacturer uses the right materials and reinforces the stitched areas. As long as you manage to get your hands on such a product, you can give it to your doggie. However, if you notice Fido tearing it apart with ease, you should snatch it away from him/her and give him/her something else.
Rawhide chewable
products: Most pet parents resort to playthings made of
rawhide because they know how engaging these products can be. However, if
you’re going to invest in one of them, particularly the larger ones with single
sheets of rawhide rolled and knotted on each end, you should keep an eye on
what your pup does with it. The moment you notice the item coming apart of
loosening up, throw it away and get a new one.
Dental claw improvement: Dental chewable toys are no longer what they used to be in the past. They’re much safer now because manufacturing companies have changed the production process. Today, these products gradually dissolve and become softer when they come into contact with doggie saliva constantly.
The right size: Indeed,
the size of the plaything is an important point of consideration. If the item
is too small, your pup may end up swallowing it. If it’s too large, he/she
won’t be able to play with it at all. Of course, you can always try to break
big products down into smaller pieces to get more bangs for your buck. Then
again, while doing it, you may inadvertently make some of the pieces smaller
than others, which, in turn, will turn into a choking hazard. Instead of making
things so complicated, just try to pick the right-sized plaything.
